The Disney influence is everywhere in the city that was reborn in 1955 with the opening of Disneyland. Formerly a sleepy suburban town, Anaheim today is a vibrant tourist center with fine dining, shopping, festivals, myriad attractions and a range of accommodations. Of course, at the heart of it all is Disneyland. "The happiest place on earth" mixes the nostalgia of some original rides with elaborate new ones, plus a 21st-century pyrotechnic extravaganza. For adults, there's Downtown Disney, a dizzying array of stores, restaurants and nightclubs. The newest theme park, California Adventure, appeals to all ages. Competing for your attention is Knott's Berry Farm, where the theme is the Old West and some of the thrill rides outdo Disney's.
