it depends on your citizenship and where you want to go.

Indeed Southern, a friend of mine , a colombian told me that the USA embassy there concede the apppointment for an consular interview after 2 years of the petition of that appointment and  they can deny the tourist visa even. Some citizen of some countries need to show they can afford to travel as tourist and not to stay illegally.

Hello Emeka, you dont say what kind of visa you wish to get, since this is a travel / tourist related forum, we dont encourange to discuss another kind of visa different than tourist visas.  [ur=http://www.1blueplanet.com/community/index.php?topic=45.0]See here please[/url]
Every country has different requiriments depending the nationality or country of origin.
The best you can do its to go to the nearer embassy or the consulate in your country for the most accurate info.
Greetings

Hi Jane here you can find all the requirements you need to get an australian visa,
Australia Tourism Visas
You can apply in 3 different ways, the ordinary tourism visa, with an invitation letter or sponsor if you kow or have some  friends or relatives in australia, citizens or legal residents  and electrocnically , oyu can cheeck there first if  you are elegible.

To all of the people commenting on how the US should make it harder for the people from these countries to get into the US: NEWSFLASH -- it already does! It is "hard as hell" to come here.
try looking at some of the US visa application processes in Brazil or China or India sometime. They'll probably boggle your mind.

And, oh, don't diss the beauty and worth of other places when you've seen nothing beyond your own neighborhood.
