Italian transport on strike

Train tunnel : A man waits for a train on a empty platform in Milan's Central station. Transport throughout Italy is on strike to protest against the Italian government's proposed 2006 budget, which includes some 20 billion euros in spending cuts and revenue-raising measures to keep Italy's deficit in check.

The three collective trade unions on strike represent a tiny minority of the country's 95 percent public transport sector & 75 percent of regional & non-urban transport workers being represented by ASSTRA, the National Association of Local Public Transport.
